A recent visit to Sandoway House Nature Center, 142 S. Ocean Blvd, Delray Beach, FL 33483
I’ll be writing in the first person here as I cannot help but share the excitement I experienced in my first visit to Sandoway House in Delray Beach. I had other stops that day, but went to the 10:30 AM shark feeding to check it out and get some photos.
I was met by Chris Koch, Executive Director, who gave me some of the details about the shark feeding (10:30 am Tues. – Sat.). He said not to wonder too far as the feeding was about to begin. I couldn’t help myself. There’s so much to see – porch with native Florida critters, Old Florida Room, Observation Deck, Art Exhibit, Resource Library and a shell collection of over 10,000 shells.
Chris was kind enough to find me when the feeding was starting. This is absolutely a must see. Chris was both informative and entertaining. And, the sharks and other fishes put on a great show. Perhaps the star of the show was a Puffer fish who stood his ground in the tank along with the much larger Nurse Sharks.
Chris gives all a “petting zoo” experience with a sea urchin fished from the tank.
